Favorite VMA Performance

I remember watching this over and over. What he was doing at the time was ballsy. It seems silly now, but in 1997, Marilyn Manson was really controversial for his anti-god message. And I loved him for it.

It is remarkable how far off the map this guy dropped. He was way controversial back then, but I think this kind of thing would have been even more potent in the climate of the past eight years. I mean, it's easy to hate on god and the government when Bill Clinton's in power, there's not that much weight, relatively speaking.

But I guess that same climate is what kept him down. With the evangelical terror-killin' president, nobody had the balls to put Manson on the air.
